Final day of November
and it's cold and windy outside. We're due for some snow in the next day or so.
I'm kind of not prepared. It's been a long week.
Had to prep for the
colonoscopy on Monday and I can now commiserate with anyone who's gone through
the process. It's not fun. Seriously not fun. By the time I got to the surgery
center, I was completely spaced out, which maybe didn't hurt. I have a major
phobia of being put under and I was in full freak-out mode. Thankfully,
everything went well and even though it was a holiday weekend, I got the test
results back and all looks okay. Whew!
Had a full slate of
work projects also. I'm a little behind because, honestly, while I should have
bounced right back from the procedure, I ended up being out of it until Thursday.
I have a copy edit I have to finish up today then I'll have a little breathing
room.
I literally watched
one of my normal slate of shows this week. I'm hoping to get back on track, but
even with breathing room, I've got a busy week ahead. We'll see how it goes.
I did get an episode
of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries in. It was a fun episode that I
enjoyed the first time around.
I started an
episode of Foyle's War but haven't made it all the way through yet. I'll
probably pick up with it this week and finish out the round of my usual shows.
That's it for the
life update this week. Tonight's post is from The Honeymoon Plot, a
novella that brings a couple together when they plan a surprise honeymoon for
their best friends.
Here's the
miniblurb:
Wynonna Davis and Gaffney Wesson, the maid of honor and
best man for their best friends, hatch a plot to send the couple on a surprise
honeymoon for their first anniversary. In the process of planning the fabulous
getaway, Wy and Gaff find themselves falling for each other, which may lead to
another wedding.
And a snippety peek…
On the drive to
Wynonna's condo, Gaffney studied Rose's best friend. She'd been a rock over the
past few very hectic days. She had a bit of a droop to her shoulders, but she
deserved to wilt a little … now that Rose and Byrne were wed.
She glanced in his
direction. "You're staying through the funeral?" She shook her head.
"Never mind. You already said you were. I forgot you planned to stay at
Byrne's while they were on their honeymoon." She huffed out breath.
Gaff's lips twisted.
"I think the last couple of days are catching up with us. I know my head
is still spinning." He made a turn onto her street. "But we ended up
with a really nice wedding, even if it turned out very low-key." Easing
into the entrance of the complex, he drove around the curved road then pulled
into Wynonna's drive.
She nodded. "I'm
so glad they didn't cancel. Rosie deserves her happily ever after and she
couldn't have picked a better guy than Byrne." She sighed a little.
"Wish they could go on their honeymoon, though." Tears welled in her
eyes and she dashed them away.
Gaff's heart went out
to her. "You're upset about more than the honeymoon, aren't you?" He
turned to face her. "I'll listen if you want to talk." He hoped she
took him up on the offer … because he didn't want to be alone with his thought
right now.
Her lips curved in a
sad smile. "If you really mean that … maybe you could come in for a
while?" She popped the door and hesitated.
Gaff shut the engine
off. "Be happy to." Pocketing his keys, he opened his door.
"Maybe I can get some dinner together. I'm not half bad in the
kitchen." He slid out and walked around the front of the car.
Wynonna blinked.
"You're offering to cook too? You really are a great friend." She
keyed in the entry code for her garage door, and it slowly lifted.
Gaff bit back a grin. He liked the compliment,
even if she didn't realize how much. Following her past her car, he stepped
into her kitchen and let out a low whistle.
The open concept gave
him a great view of her living area and a peek inside another room with a set
of open French doors. A riot of color burst throughout the space with fabric on
the walls and the use of accessories. She'd cleverly made it easy to remove if
she ever decided to change things up. He turned to compliment her unique design
and found her standing at the sink with her shoulders shaking.
Crossing over the
floor, he put his hands on her biceps. "Hey … let's move into the living
room and you can tell me what's going—" He broke off when she turned and
caught his mouth with hers.
He automatically
responded, sliding his tongue past her lips. The unexpected embrace started hot
and didn't cool down. His hand slid up to cup the back of her head, and her
arms wrapped around his torso.
He didn't have to
wonder how she'd taste anymore. Something he'd pondered since the first moment
they met. Byrne gave Gaff a friendly warning … to think with his brain and not
his dick when interacting with Wynonna.
That advice kicked in
and Gaff reluctantly eased away from Wynonna. "I hate to shut this down,
but you're vulnerable right now … and it would suck if you regretted anything
that might happen next if we pursue this to its logical conclusion." His
thumb stroked over her tear-stained cheek.
Wynonna cocked her
head. "Why would it matter?" Her gaze clouded and she blinked fresh
tears away.
Gaff flashed a quick
smile. "Because there's a spark here, and it's not going anywhere."
He pressed his lips to her forehead. "Let's maybe light that fuse after
we've had time to process everything that's going on right now." He put an
arm around her and led her into the living room.
She sank down onto the
couch and gave a nod. "I hate that you're right … but you are."
Leaning back, she sighed. "Thank you. For keeping a straight head while
I'm all over the place."
Gaff lifted his chin
then sat beside her. "You're welcome." He nudged her shoulder with
his. "Talk to me. This feels like more than post-wedding letdown."
Grabbing a throw
pillow, she tucked her legs up under her thighs, mindless of wrinkling her
skirt, and took a deep breath. "I think losing Mona is just now hitting
me. I loved her like a grandmother too…"
I'm happy with how
this one is coming together. Wy and Gaff are going through a rough time trying
to support their friends and they're mindful of how that can twist things.
That's it for this
week. Happy reading!
Skylin
