Sunday Snippet: Little Black Book

Wow, September flew by. Now that we're into fall the days always seem to go faster, probably because they're shorter and the activities tend to be jam-packed. I love the fall season so I hope I remember to take time to enjoy it.

As usual, the week got stuffed full of last-minute projects, but I did get some good viewing in. I caught The Last Ship on Monday because my brain needed time to recover from homecoming. LOL An excellent episode by the way.

I binge-watched classic Hawaii Five-0 most of the day on Sunday and it helped soothe my garbled mind. Caught another episode of Midsomer Murders and I'm almost through the season. I think I still have about seven more to watch.

Got in another episode of Babylon 5 along with The Sarah Conner Chronicles. To keep with the sci-fi theme, I also watched episodes of Birds of Prey and Lexx. Rounded the week out with Pensacola Wings of Gold and The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Caught an all-day marathon of The Garage Sale Mysteries, too.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Little Black Book, a sexy short that spins a trope on its side a little.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Kalyn Miles is footloose and fancy free and likes it that way. She does what and who she wishes. Her current object of desire is Sid Mortimer, but he'll have nothing to do with her—especially since she wants to add him to her little black book.

And a snippety peek…

Kalyn hesitated. Would he go for her suggestion? Only one way to find out.
She propped an arm on the bar. "We spend the rest of the day and night together. That should give us time to test the waters." Please agree.
Sid considered her idea for a moment. "Sounds good. But too easy." The corner of his mouth kicked up in a sexy smirk.
Damn. He'd read her like a book.
She sighed. "Okay, I'm open to extending the deal if we're compatible after a night together." What the hell am I doing?
Sid tossed a number. "Six months. That's how long I want with you." He held her gaze, almost daring her to run.
Kalyn's eyes went wide and her heart pounded. Her brain tried to wrap around half a year… Her stomach roiled a little.
She flicked her tongue out to wet her bottom lip. "Uh, you're pretty confident there, aren't you?" His self-assurance kind of turned her on.
Sid nodded. "I am." His tone left no room for doubt.
So tempting, but also terrifying, to accept his timeframe. "No offense, but I'm not." She cracked a smile. "Baby steps, Sid." She countered with an alternative. "How about three months?" Three months! Have I lost my mind?
Sid's mouth thinned but he held out a hand. "Deal."
Kalyn blinked. "Um, okay. That was easier than I thought." She expected more haggling from him.
She went to grasp Sid's hand but he held up a finger. "With the option to extend if we're both in agreement." His brow quirked.
Kalyn laughed and took his palm to shake on the deal.
Sid pulled her close, putting his mouth by her ear. "I realize we need to be discreet, but my name is the top of your list—exclusively—during our three months." He eased away, his gaze daring her to argue.
And there it is. But not a deal breaker. She'd play by the rules because she wanted him that much.
She gave him a wide grin. "Done."

I love the back and forth with this one. Sid's not a doormat and Kalyn appreciates the fact he won't cave. I have so much fun writing these two.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Little Black Book

Well, tonight is the rescheduled premiere date for The Last Ship. I fully respect TNT's decision to postpone the airing and I'm very much looking forward to watching the start of season three.

Wynonna Earp's lead-in to the finale blew my mind. I'm not sure if the show will have a second season, but I'm so hoping it does. That said, I don't trust Syfy the way I used to. At least I know Killjoys and Dark Matter will be showing up soon.

Orphan Black. Wow. Seriously, just wow. While I'm incredibly sad next season will be the last, I'm also kind of excited because I know it'll far surpass anything I expect or can anticipate. As for the finale, once again, Rachel proved she's the biggest bitch on the planet. I'm rather looking forward to a major toppling of her reign of terror. I can always keep my fingers crossed that what she thinks she wants and deserves ends up being her total undoing, right?

Still working my way through the first seasons of Babylon 5 and Strike Back. Someday, when I have copious amounts of spare time, I want to get back into recapping and sharing my joy for my favorite shows. There's something fun and rewarding about interacting with other fans.

Tonight's post is from Little Black Book, a sexy short with something of a cat and mouse premise.

Sid fought the urge to fist pump the air. He'd managed to put a chink in Kalyn's armor without tearing her down. He had no claim on her or her body. No right to make demands or pass judgment. Sid might consider Brad Bradley one slimy step up from a toad, but women flocked to the man's side. He didn't blame Kalyn for getting caught in the net.
But he could sit back and use her repulsion to his advantage. And get his point across. She could sleep with a different guy every night—her choice, no skin off his back. But none of those men would be him—the one she wanted at the top of her list. Arrogance didn't enter into his warning. He could give her exactly what she wanted. A onetime deal. A good, hard fuck and nothing more. But she wouldn't have him. She'd get a hard dick, a mind-blowing orgasm, and not much else. He laid his cards on the table and walked away, not because he aimed to hurt her, but as a reminder of what he wanted.
Her and only her. His sharing days were over.
He'd played the musical bed game and thoroughly enjoyed every moment… until he didn't anymore. A hot body with a nice rack and sweet curves like Kalyn's definitely got his libido to stand up and take notice. But he'd keep a tight rein on his sex drive, so much easier knowing she'd unleashed all her female goodness on Bradley. Not only because the idea stung his ego more than a little, but also because he had infinitely more patience than Kalyn did.
She needed more time, which he'd provide. Although maybe not happily.
A firm grip on his shoulder had him turning away from the bar.
Kalyn tilted her head and shaded her eyes with her hand. "I have a proposition for you, if you're willing to compromise just a tiny bit." She trailed her fingers down to his forearm.
Sid hid his surprise, stepping away and crossing his arms over his chest. "Okay, I'm listening." He met and held her gaze. "No promises, and whatever you have in mind better be good."

If Kalyn's not careful, she's going to back herself into a corner. Sid's got the upper hand right now and he likes having it.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Little Black Book

Orphan Black. If you're not watching this show, why aren't you? LOL I rave about Arrow and Bitten, but in all honesty, Orphan Black hits every single one of my hot spot kinks for television. The writers always throw something into the mix that catches me completely by surprise and seriously, with the amount of television I watch, that's hard to do. LOL

Truly, if you're looking for something awesome to sink your teeth into, find the first season and don't look back. The acting is top notch—any show that has a lead actress who can pull off no less than nine different roles, usually at least four to five simultaneously, is worth its weight in gold. And the supporting cast is stellar. Go. Find. Watch. You won't regret it.

Tonight's post is from Little Black Book, a short story with a bit of a gender twist on the adding names to the list thing.

Here's the tagline:

Kalyn Miles is footloose and fancy free and likes it that way. She does what and who she wishes. Her current object of desire is Sid Mortimer, but he'll have nothing to do with her—especially since she wants to add him to her little black book.

And a snippety peek…

Kalyn kept her face buried in her arms, but her Sid sense kicked in the moment he walked into the pool area. She battled the urge to either punch him or groan out loud. If only he'd stuck around last night… she wouldn't be the subject of the retreat grapevine.
Shit.
Her head shot up. Had Sid heard… yep. One look at his carefully schooled features said more than anything he'd utter. Okay, not more. The man would either cut her to shreds with snark and biting sarcasm, or totally rip on her about the faux pas she'd managed to get tangled up in with Brad Bradley.
God… Brad Bradley. What had she been thinking?
A local celebrity on the fast track to being mayor of the city, the double named Brad landed on the most eligible bachelor lists throughout the state.
Kalyn groaned. Not much of a prize by her standards, and she did have them.
Sid plopped down on the chair placed at the arm of hers and kicked back. His board shorts fit well, hugging his thighs while riding low on his waist. Kalyn licked her lower lip, fighting the urge to stare.
He slid his gaze sideways. "Sounds like you have a new name for your little black book." His lips twitched. "Did you move him to the top of the list?"
Kalyn shuddered. "Shut up, Sid. Right now." She put a hand to her throbbing head. "If you don't, I'm going to hurt you."
Sid laughed. "Hey, I'm just saying. Bradley's quite the coup." He nudged her shoulder. "You can add a celebrity to your checked column."
Kalyn snorted then sobered. "You know who I want in that top spot, Sid." She laid a hand on his forearm.
His face went serious. "And you know what it'll take to make it happen."
A commitment. More than she could do.
Stalemate. Again.
She sighed. "One of these days, you're going to cave and I'll get what I want." She nodded with confidence.
Sid's mouth thinned. "Be very careful, Kalyn." He leaned in close. "You might get what you want, but no one can promise it'll be the way you want it." Leaning back, he scooted his chair away from the table and rose. "Don't bite off more than you can handle."
He strolled over to the bar and Kalyn frowned, hating to give him the last word.

Ahhh. I love writing conversations. Sid and Kalyn are particularly fun to create dialog for. :D

That's it for this week. Happy reading!
