I hope everyone is geared up for the holiday season!

For my selection, I'll be featuring another excerpt from Fantasy Exchange, a fun romp where work and play create a little friction.

This week, we see a little more of Vas and Kelsey.

Book Tagline: A fantasy exchange leads to hot action for Kelsey and Vas.

Kelsey kicked back, downing her shot of bourbon. She couldn't wait to hear who Mal Birdman fantasized about. Wait. Unless she topped the list. She held back a shudder. She might have to punch him in the face if he named her.
Howie nodded toward Mal. "Yeah, Bird Dog, who's your ultimate fantasy?"
Mal lifted a shoulder. "I've got a bunch, but the master of arms is who I dreamed about last night."
Howie's eyes widened. "Dude, she's a lesbian. You don’t stand a chance."
Mal snorted. "Tell that to my dick. She's been popping in and out of my nighttime escapades for weeks now."
Kelsey rolled her eyes. "Too much information, Bird Dog." She nudged Sherri. "Change the subject, Sher. Who's your top fantasy man?"
Sherri grinned and pointed to Howie. "Come on. I live with mine."
Howie gave a smug smile. "Back at you, babe."
Nolan made a gagging sound. "Geez, you two suck."
Maggie chimed in. "You're disgustingly predictable. Always the same answer."
Sherri cackled. "Well, come on, he's perfection." She waited a beat. "And super kinky, so no need to look elsewhere."
Kelsey sputtered. "Dammit. Too much information." She jabbed a finger in Maggie's direction. "Mags, save us."
Maggie chuckled. "Well… there's a certain barista at the coffee shop on Market Road." She leaned in. "I'm not naming a name because there's a chance I might actually hook up with her."
Whistles sounded and a lot of gazes widened around the table.
Vas lifted a brow. "You're into women? Seriously?"
Maggie blushed and shrugged. "I don't know. It's a fantasy, right? I'd like to try and make it happen."
Kelsey nodded. "You go for it, Mags." She downed another shot, looking for the next victim. "Nolan. Ultimate fantasy."
Nolan didn't hesitate. "Mine's from the academy. A red hot instructor by the name of Martina Escaba. I always drooled in her class."

A particularly grueling operation lowers morale and he decides the team needs a pick up. But he's not quite prepared for the ice breaker topic his second in command draws out of the box—name his ultimate fantasy woman. Considering Kelsey fits the bill, Vas can't very well name her.

Kelsey Drum loves working her dream job and can't ask for a better group of people to spend the bulk of her time with. When her CO wants a distraction she's always happy to provide one. But sharing her biggest fantasy? No way. Not when he's her number one pick.

Kelsey and Vas manage to avoid naming each other, but their interest is piqued. Kelsey quite literally catches Vas with his pants down and she comes clean about who she'd choose as her fantasy man. Vas admits she's his top choice and a meeting of minds and bodies follows. They embark on a fantasy exchange, but agree the work has to come first, no matter what. Whew. After an extremely long hiatus from participating in the Book Hooks, I'm finally back and looking forward to diving into some great excerpts.

For my selection, I'll be featuring Fantasy Exchange, a fun romp where work and play create a little friction.

This week, we get to know Vas and Kelsey.

Book Tagline: A fantasy exchange leads to hot action for Kelsey and Vas.

~*~

Kelsey walked into the Rec, a former motor pool storage facility located on a decommissioned base, which served as their corporate headquarters. A retired team member turned the place into a bar where the covert operations teams could relax, unwind, and speak freely about their missions. Not open to the public, the Rec didn't show up with a listed address or owner anywhere. In five years of operation, not a soul had stumbled onto the place. Kelsey considered the rundown building a little slice of heaven. The facade didn't look like much on the outside, but the inside looked like a dream. Part retro summer camp, part rustic hunting lodge, the combination just worked—at least for Kelsey.
Joe stood behind the bar, wiping down a set of glasses. He jerked his head toward a large, round table and lifted a questioning brow.
Kelsey nodded. "Perfect, Joe." She made her way to his side, ducking behind the bar. "I'm grabbing the ice breaker box." Reaching under the shelf, she fished around until she found the smooth, wooden square.
Joe frowned when she stood up. "Tough one?" He stacked and lined the glasses up on a tray then brought out several bottles of alcohol. "From your earlier call asking for the run of the place, I kind of figured it might have been." Grabbing the goods, he started toward the table. "And now you're using the box. What the hell went down, Kels?" He placed the supplies in the middle then stepped back and glanced in her direction.
Kelsey shrugged. "Let's just say we're down one friend and up one foe and leave it at that for now." She carried the box to the table and looked up when team members started filing through the door. "Thanks for coming through, Joe. We need this."
Joe squeezed her bicep. "Always happy to help out. You know where to find everything." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, hugging her close. "Leave the stuff when you're done. I'll clean up in the morning." With a wave to everyone, he strode to the back door and exited.
Kelsey's lips quirked when she faced the team, who each had a sheepish grin on their face. No doubt, all were feeling a little awkward about the cranky mood earlier and the reason for the rec special, but Kelsey figured they'd all snap back to normal in due course. Her quick head count showed one missing—Vas.
She glanced toward Stiver. His gaze slid to the door and sure enough, the metal slab opened to reveal their leader.
Kelsey relaxed and snapped her fingers. "Okay, let's get this debrief started." She handed the box to Vas. "You open and I'll draw?" The group found seats and settled down.
He snapped the hinge up and flipped the lid. "Sounds good." He waited until she rifled through the slips of paper and drew one, then closed the box.

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—Merry and Bright #MFRWAuthors #MFRWHooks

MFRW Authors Blog

Welcome to Book Hooks, the weekly smorgasbord sampler hosted by the MFRW Authors Blog.

Readers: get hooked and reel in some great books. Authors are sharing short excerpts from their work. Please enjoy and consider picking up the full book by clicking on the buy link.

Since the holiday season is gearing up, I'm sharing a series of excerpts from Merry and Bright, available now from Resplendence Publishing. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Presley, Gunnar, and Frazier.

This week, we meet Gunnar.

Book Tagline: Presley wants to start some new holiday traditions, but waking up in bed with Gunnar and Frazier isn't what she had in mind. Yet… she can't think of a better way to be merry and bright.

~*~

Gunnar braved the cold and semi-last minute shoppers to hit the mall. If he and Fraz wanted to give Presley a great holiday, they'd need some presents. The fact Fraz called him at seven am with the same idea only confirmed how great minds thought alike. Or maybe it just proved Gunnar's best friend wanted to impress the hell out of Presley and give her some new traditions to enjoy, too.
Gunnar would much rather point and click when shopping, preferably in his nice, warm living room with a sporting event or movie playing in the background. Instead he got to the cheery music and frantic parents searching for the elusive must have gift of the season. At least Gunnar had a list of six gifts and a handy app on his phone to check the purchases off. Frazier had another half dozen items—he'd figured Presley would love a loose interpretation of a twelve days of Christmas theme. Gunnar agreed. He had a thing for the holiday song, one of his favorites along with the many humorous variations.
A crowd of people entered from outside the main entrance and Gunnar paused by a lingerie shop to avoid getting stuck in the middle of the throng. He tilted his head, admiring a shimmery, gold satin corset and thong set. The mannequin had a silver bow loosely tied around its neck and it didn't take much imagination to visualize Presley decked out the racy outfit. He got caught up in the fantasy of unwrapping her like a gift under the tree.
A perky salesperson darted out of the store. "May I help you find something special?"

Gunnar shook his head. "No, not this year." He started down the corridor again, but glanced back and gave the woman a wink. "But maybe next."

Book Blurb: After losing her parents, Presley Griffith will be spending the holidays alone, and wishes new traditions were easier to establish. By the time he left, the snow had accumulated to several inches and the temperature dropped at least ten degrees. Frazier shivered on the way to his car and loaded everything into the trunk and backseat. He got rid of the cart and slid behind the wheel, starting the engine quickly so the vehicle would warm up. Rubbing his hands together a few times, he reached into his pocket, grabbed his phone, and dialed Gunnar.
He answered on the second ring. "Dude, mission accomplished. You?"
Frazier chuckled. "Purchased, wrapped, and loaded. I'm heading out now." He checked the time on the dashboard clock. "Wanna meet at Barney's for a burger?"
Gunnar laughed. "Man, I'm already there. And you've got a double cheese with a side of waffle fries coming up in about ten minutes."
Frazier groaned. "Gunn, my man, I definitely owe you one." His stomach rumbled. "I'll be there ASAP. The damn roads are a bitch to navigate."
Gunnar snorted. "Take your time, bro. The plows are out, but so are the crazy people."
Frazier agreed. "I know. Glad I'm not on shift today." The car finally warmed up, and his windows defrosted. "I'm on my way. Later." He cut the call and tucked his phone back inside his pocket.
Backing out of his parking space, he grinned. The twelve days of Christmas theme had been a stroke of genius, and they'd pulled off the easy part.
The hard part would be surprising Presley.

Tilting her head to the side, she gazed at the reflection. She had a hazy, dreamy look on her face. "Geez, Pres. Get a grip." She screwed the lid back on the container. "And get dressed, you idiot, or you'll miss the movie."
She entered her bedroom and grabbed her favorite downtime clothes—a pair of comfy yoga pants, a soft T-shirt, and a fleece zip-up. She dropped the towel and pulled the garments on, stuffing her feet into a pair of fluffy socks. Feeling loose and relaxed, she opened her bedroom door and exited, stopping mid-step, stunned by the sight greeting her eyes.
A zillion presents under her tree. Her gaze flew to Frazier and Gunnar, standing in her kitchen with big, fat grins on their faces.
Her head shook back and forth. "Oh, you guys, what did you do?" She walked forward, disbelief working its way through her brain.
Frazier moved into the living room. "What's it look like? We played Santa."
Gunnar followed Fraz into the space.
Presley backed up, moving away from the tree. "It's too much. I can't accept all this stuff." She paced the floor, back and forth, overwhelmed, before she stopped. "Did you two do this so I'd pick one of you over the other?" She leveled her gaze on both men. "I already said I'm not coming between you."
Gunnar shot Frazier a sideways glance. "Shit, Fraz. We're morons."
Frazier nodded. "Yep. We are." He shook his head. "We forgot to tell her about the no pressure thing."

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—Creative Ink (A Black Unicorn Comic Adventure) #MFRWAuthors #MFRWHooks

Readers: get hooked and reel in some great books. Authors are sharing short excerpts from their work. Please enjoy and consider picking up the full book by clicking on the buy link.

I'm revisiting one of my first releases, Creative Ink, a Black Unicorn Comics Adventure and a sexy little short story designed to be a hot, quick read. I'll be posting a series of pivotal scenes over the next couple of weeks. Please enjoy!

No, the Black Unicorn Comic series isn't a comic book or graphic novel. Yet. But it is something of a different concept. The series is set around the adventures of the main couple and their co-workers for an indie comic book company and the stories are somewhat short with no more than four to six 'acts'. The idea came from one of my writing groups where we were challenged to come up with the idea for a TV show, cast the characters, and write a short story to create the visual. The overwhelming and positive feedback for Creative Ink convinced me to start the series.

Series Tagline: Black Unicorn Comics—collective genius or creative madness—follow the adventures of Brian, Lucy and their friends and decide.

Book Tagline: Brian and Lucy are on the verge of mainstream success—watch it happen in Creative Ink.

He let her have a few moments of fun before he turned the tables and worked her into a frenzy of need with his lips, tongue, and fingers, catching hold of her when she tried to dash up the stairs. The man had his own wicked good time, teasing and tantalizing, using feather light strokes, nips and flicks while slowly urging her up the steps.
Lucy indulged one of Brian's few requests and let him remove whatever lingerie she had on, since she so rarely wore it at all. He slid the straps of the purple satin down so slowly Lucy thought she might have to take matters into her own hands. He'd still been in the mood to tease, tempt, and torment her after getting her all hot and bothered on the way up the stairs.
He sped things up with the thong, hooking the scrap of fabric with one finger and giving it a few playful tugs until he cleared her feet. Shoving it off to the side, he delved between her legs and drove her mad with his tongue. He pushed her to the edge of orgasm twice before finally giving over control and letting her ride him to a mind-bending climax.
Lucy's bra hung from one of the iron knobs on the antique bed she'd inherited from her grandmother. A racy purple, the matching thong got buried somewhere under the frothy white comforter Brian's gran gave them as a housewarming gift when she'd visited from the UK.

Brian's ex works in the office and his best friend owns the press. Lucy's brother lives next door and has the major hots for the ex-girlfriend. A competitor wants to buy the company and convention season is just around the corner.

Brian and Lucy act as the calm in the crazy storm of creativity and keep their relationship burning hot—usually in spite of the antics going on around them. They follow where the muse leads and it's worked out successfully so far.

Brian shuddered and tried to focus on her words. "Wait. End of the day?" He gazed at her retreating back, eyes sliding down to linger on the curve of her ass.
Lucy called back. "You heard me."
He leaned back in his chair, letting his gaze drink in Lucy's long legs in the cut-off shorts she favored for work. "Yeah, yeah. But I get to keep them, right?"
Lucy didn't respond. Didn't have to. Her middle finger pretty much said it all.
Brian's lips curved. He'd talk her around to letting him keep Harry's renderings. Would be an absolute waste to bin them.
He settled back, marveling at his good fortune. Living and working with the woman he loved made moving half-way around the world worthwhile. And yeah, a very brief and unsatisfying detour with someone else almost sent him scurrying back across the pond right after he arrived, but Lucy made sure he stuck around.
Bloody marvelous of her.
She kept him on his toes—never a dull moment—and he wouldn't change it for anything in the world. He grinned. Lucy hacked his password at least once a week, so she always had the inside scoop on Xavier. Brian purposefully made it easy, knowing it gave her a thrill to catch him off guard. He never knew when she'd strike, only that she would.
And she never pulled punches, giving him a frank and honest critique. The fact she loved his new twist made him even more confident about the direction he wanted to take the storyline. He couldn't wait to run his new ideas by her and see what she thought.
But first… he needed to deal with Harry's illicit artwork… or the only thing he'd be running would be an ad for a new flat mate. Finishing off his coffee, he rose and headed for the old dark room Harry called an office.
The light over the door cast a red glow so he knocked before he opened the door. "Harry, mate, we need to talk…"

Lucy Sanderson sat in front of the monitor, eyes riveted to the screen.
So into the material, she almost missed seeing Brian Wells enter the office. She finished reading the page just as he settled into his seat across from her, a mug of hot coffee in his hand.
Lucy cocked her head sideways. "So…" She drew the word out. "Where do you get the shit in your head?" She fought back a smile when his confused eyes flew to hers over the top of the cup. "I mean does it just exist there waiting to come pouring out, or do you have to work at creating it?" She purposefully waited until he had a mouthful of coffee before she added. "Or does wanting me to be half naked all the time inspire you?"
To his credit, Brian choked down most of the hot liquid, managing to keep the bit that did spew out to a minimum. "Dammit, Lucy. You hacked my password again, didn't you?" He grabbed a napkin to wipe his chin.
Lucy gave him a cheeky grin. "I keep telling you to make it harder. Altering your birth date by a few days is too easy." She picked up her mug of coffee and took a drink.
Brian mumbled something she couldn't quite make out—probably a threat for payback. But she called him on the password thing all the time.
"If I make it too hard, I won't remember the bloody thing."
Lucy chuckled gleefully. Brian never failed to entertain her, and his British accent came out in full force when he got riled about something. Two of the many things she loved about him.

She sat up and leaned closer. "Seriously, Brian. The issue you're working on now is gonna blow people away."

I'm revisiting one of my first releases, Busted in Bubbles, a sexy little short story designed to be a hot, quick read. I'll be posting a series of pivotal scenes over the next couple of weeks. Please enjoy!

Today's post features some banter between Emsley and Rayne, picking up from where last week's post left off.

Book Tagline: Is there anything better than a bath time romp with a hot man? Emsley Bourne wants to find out.

~*~

She had to know if the do-it-all security expert liked to soak in a tub. Peeking around the corner, she bit her cheek to keep from laughing out loud. Sure as shit, Rayne McKinnon sat up to his shoulders in frothy bubbles. An open bottle of bubbly, nestled in a bucket of ice, sat beside the tub, a glass filled with the golden liquid held in one of Rayne's hands, dangling outside. His head rested on the rolled edge of the tub, eyes closed, his fingers lazily tilting the glass back and forth.
The humor died and Emsley's face heated up. God, he looked damned good, bubbles or not. A wave of jealousy hit her… he appeared so content. The relaxed pose, the hot water, the alcohol… geez, she could go for all three. Okay, four. She could go for Rayne right now, too.
Rayne opened his eyes and shook his head. "Come to short sheet the bed again, Ems?"
She blinked and sputtered, but didn't deny the accusation. "How did you know?"
Rayne drained his glass and poured another flute. "You're the only person I know brazen enough to swipe a keycard at a security conference and not worry about getting caught." His lips quirked knowingly. "That juvenile record of yours must come in handy sometimes."
Emsley almost missed the backhanded insult. Her eyes had been riveted to the sculpted muscle playing under his skin when he poured the drink.
She nodded absently. "Yeah, it does." His words registered. "Wait. What? My juvie records are sealed. You shouldn't know about them."
Rayne's lips curved in a slow smile. "It pays to have extraordinary hacking skills."

Book Blurb: Rayne McKinnon sells a lucrative security-consulting job and it's time to move on to his next objective: adding a partner. He wants Emsley Bourne, personally and professionally, and puts a plan in motion to achieve his goal. She only has to follow through with her usual tradition.

Emsley lives for the next thrill, in business and life. She's got a unique skill set and uses it to gain access to Rayne's cabin to follow through on her standard short-sheeting escapade. Imagine her surprise when she discovers Rayne soaking in a tub full of bubbles. Busted, she can either flee the scene—or join Rayne for some bath time fun.

I'm revisiting one of my first releases, Busted in Bubbles, a sexy little short story designed to be a hot, quick read. I'll be posting a series of pivotal scenes over the next couple of weeks. Please enjoy!

Today's post features Emsley, my heroine.

Book Tagline: Is there anything better than a bath time romp with a hot man? Emsley Bourne wants to find out.

Emsley glanced in each direction before she used the master keycard to let herself into Rayne's cabin. If she'd figured the timing right, it shouldn't take longer than five minutes to short sheet his bed and another six to get the card back to the concierge desk. Poor Ron had no clue she'd borrowed his all access entry key to pull a prank. Hell, he didn't have any idea she'd lifted the damned thing at all.
With a smug smile, she crossed the living area and started up the spiral staircase to the loft. About five steps up, she froze, carefully listening and hearing water sloshing in the bathroom. Shit. Rayne must've skipped the fancy-pants dinner. Okay, could she still pull off her traditional short sheeting of his bed and still leave him none the wiser?
She pondered, considering her skill level against the chance he might discover her presence. Should she risk it?
Yeah. She loved a good challenge.
She started up the next step and stopped again. Wait… bath? What the hell? Curiosity ate its way through her intention of getting in and out. Rayne couldn't possibly be soaking in a tub. Hell. Yeah, he could… and he might have company. The thought bothered her… even if it shouldn't. She might find the combination of looks and brains a heady mixture, but it didn't give her any claim to his affections.
She hesitated. Indecision warred in her brain. She had zero desire to become a voyeur if Rayne had brought someone along for this trip and they'd decided to get kinky in the tub. She weighed her options. The possibility of finding him with some woman wrapped around him would be like a kick in the teeth, but…
Screw it. She made her way back down the steps, tip-toeing to the bathroom door.
She had to know if the do-it-all security expert liked to soak in a tub.

The tradeshow paid off! Right on schedule.
Rayne McKinnon shook hands with Jorn Pestle, sealing the most lucrative security-consulting job he'd ever landed. "I'll have preliminary recommendations to you by Tuesday."
Pestle smiled. "Now, Rayne, there's no rush. And with the amount I just agreed to pay, you should be able to kick back and skate for at least a week. Don't you ever take any downtime?"
Rayne chuckled. "Staying on my toes is the entire reason I sold you on my services."
Jorn nodded. "True, true. But at least take the night and do something fun."
Rayne agreed. He had a plan to celebrate already in place. Nothing Jorn would probably find enjoyable, but Rayne didn't particularly care. If tradition held firm, he had the potential to do something way more than fun.
Heading out of the main lodge's executive lounge, he dropped by the concierge to place a quick order for room service, to be delivered in about an hour. He needed to make a few strategic stops before he made his way to the private cabin tucked back in a dense copse of tall pines.
Wandering around the vendor area, he spied the booth he'd been seeking. He'd been too busy meeting with potential clients to get into the sales room before now. Making a quick perusal, he didn't see the person he wanted, but oh, he heard her. Her loud peal of laughter preceded her when she exited from the private transaction space curtained off from the rest of the booth. The enthusiastic handshake with her buyer indicated she'd made a big sale.

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—Down in Mexico #MFRWHook

Welcome to Book Hooks, the weekly smorgasbord sampler hosted by the MFRW Authors Blog.

I'm starting something a little new. I'm going back to some of my earlier releases and sharing a few pivotal scenes—a new one each week for three to four weeks. Up first is Down in Mexico, book one of the South of the Border series, available from Ellipses Press, Ltd.

Today's post includes a tense moment between Lars and Kiernan when a moment of truth arrives.

Book Tagline: Boy meets and falls for girl. Girl 'dies' in a fiery explosion. Five years later, they meet again.

Series Tagline: Mix a little danger with hot romance.

Kier picked up her glass, sipped the wine, contemplating.
"I learned to shoot. Small arms for the most part, but I know how to sight and fire a rifle." Her hand twirled the glass and her gaze turned hard. "It may be overkill, but I keep a handgun in the house, my shop, the car. I have two on my boat along with a rifle." She raised her eyes to his. "I didn't plan to make it easy for them to kill me."
She wouldn't. Even without the small arsenal, she'd have put up a hell of a fight before going down. It was in her nature to battle back.
Lars reached across the table and laced his fingers with her free hand. "You were smart, Kier. You had no way of knowing what would happen after you left."
She shrugged a shoulder. "There have been several times over the last five years that I've felt like something was off. Not quite right." She squeezed his hand. "It'll take some getting used to… this being safe thing."
Shit. He had to come clean. Now.
He had a feeling it wouldn't be pretty.
"Uh, Kier, about that." He took a deep breath and just spit it out. "You may not be that far off base thinking something's not quite kosher."
Her brow knit with confusion. "But I thought you said—"
"I did. I lied."
Her mouth opened, then snapped shut. So many emotions crossed her face he couldn't keep up with them.
She got up and paced the kitchen. "What exactly did you lie about?"

Kiernan isn't completely safe. In fact, Lars is using her as bait to catch the last member of the espionage organization.
