Sunday Snippet: Unacceptable Behavior

Happy Boxing Day. Hope everyone who celebrates had a great holiday and everyone who doesn't had a great week.

It's the last Sunday of 2021 and it's been a doozy of a year. Had a very busy week with my middle kid's health issues again, but we're finally closer to getting an actual answer for what's been going on with him. I'll be thankful if we get confirmation.

Slow week for television. I started with the opening arc of season twenty-two of Classic Who. Ended up being a decent four episodes. Six is growing on me.

Finished up Mysteries of Apollo and ended up enjoying this six episode look at the space program. Not sure what new series I'll start this week.

Caught two episodes of The Muppet Show. Melissa Manchester and Tony Randall were the guest stars. I didn't have a chance to watch the Muppet Christmas Carol but I might get it in this week.

Started Fosse Verdon and liked the first episode. This should be an interesting show to dive into. Looking forward to more.

Watched another episode of Peak Practice. Really not sure about the new guy. I can't quite decide if he's desperate, evil or both. So far, I don't like the guy at all.

Enjoyed another lesson of MasterClass with Bill Nye. He's a lot of fun and tackles the serious topic of climate change without making the concept too over the top.

I started season two of The Witcher and loved, loved, loved the first episode. Can't wait to get into more.

Last but not least, I watched two episodes of Classic Rugrats. Both were enjoyable and ones I remembered fondly of watching with my oldest.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Unacceptable Behavior, a novella that goes a little over the top with a fight club theme.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Blain Donahue wants to buy into a fight club and decides to invest when he meets the main attraction Roxane Kewes. He's known her a long time—since high school where she constantly got in trouble—and thinks it's great she's found an outlet for her unacceptable behavior.

And a snippety peek…

Blain Donahue. "Damn. Unexpected surprise." And quite welcome.

Excitement over possibly working with Blain lit inside her. He'd done some growing after graduation. Are you kidding? More like filled out in every right place.

She'd liked him, ever since blowing his mind in the school office. They interacted a little their final year, but not much. Different social circles—his one of privilege, hers most definitely not. She left town after graduation, moved in with her dad, and got into the cage matches he attended every weekend.

She got her degree with a combination of online classes and community college while she worked her way up from being a ring attendant to helping promote the weekly bouts. Andy spotted her and recruited her to run the female talent, handle merchandising, and maintain the equipment.

She snorted. "Can't believe that was two years ago." She wouldn't change a thing, except maybe become a partner.

She worked hard and helped Andy build Fight Night into a profitable endeavor. His old-school mentality meant the right moment to push for a piece of the action hadn't presented itself yet. But … Blain buying in might be the catalyst for change she hoped for.

Speaking of Blain, he exited Andy's office and walked across the training area. He cut an impressive figure. He'd taken his extra height and weight and sculpted it into a fit body. And looked damned good.

He stopped by her desk and propped a hip on the edge. "Andy's a go—if you give your seal of approval."

She quirked an eyebrow. "And should I give said approval? It has been five years." Her lips twitched.

He gave her a sly smile. "Would catching up over dinner be unacceptably inappropriate?" His eyebrows rose with a familiarity of a shared long-ago moment.

She barked out a laugh. "As if I'd care. You're only making me more inclined to say yes." Which she really wanted to do.

He straightened. "Good. What time can you break free? Or would you prefer I bring something in?"

She sat back and gave him a long look before grabbing a sticky note and jotting her address down. "Stop by my place around seven." She handed him the note. "I like Thai food."

He tucked the note in his breast pocket. "Thai food it is. Seven o'clock." He lifted two fingers in a wave and strolled away.

Roxane grinned, watching his ass move under the exquisitely tailored pants. "If I'm lucky, I'll have a taste of Blain for dessert."

She planned to be very lucky.

This story is a lot of fun. Roxane can't wait to see if Blain will blow her mind in the present.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Ugly Drunk

December is flying by. I had a busy week trying to get things organized and moved around from the new furniture saga and also dealing getting one kid off to Disney with her grandfather and trying to help another kid during a flare up of his ongoing medical issue. Also had a couple of work projects thrown in.

Slower than usual week for television. I started out by finishing up the final arc of Five on Classic Who. I'd forgotten how much of a snarky snipe Six started out as. Started the first episode of his full arc to end season twenty-one.

Caught another episode of Mysteries of Apollo. I might have inadvertently watched two episodes but I won't know for certain until this week.

Watched two episodes of The Muppet Show. Jean Pierre Rampal and Paul Simon were the guest stars.

Finished up the first season of Fantasy Island. Man, I have to give kudos. I really enjoyed this first season. I'm looking forward to the holiday special next week.

Caught another episode of Peak Practice. It was a tough one to watch and had a lot going on. Erica held her own but, man, what a wringer they put her through.

Enjoyed another MasterClass lesson with Bill Nye. This one focused on how science changes your perspective. Pretty interesting.

Totally flubbed thinking I'd be watching The Ready Room for season one of Star Trek: Discovery only to realize the behind the scenes show didn't start until season two. So … I watched the first episode of the second season. Man, I'm really loving this show. So great to have the introduction of Pike and get some insight on Spock. Really looking forward to this season.

Watched another episode of Chicago Med. Lots of stuff going on but a solid viewing experience. Feels like everyone is kind of heading for a breaking point, Robin and Sarah, especially. Nice to see April and Ethan going public.

Caught another episode of The Madame Blanc Mysteries. Whew. Plot is moving forward in a big way. I think I have two more episodes and I'm kind of wondering how the main arc is going to be resolved. I'm also hoping for another season of this show. It's a lot of fun.

Finished up the second part of Silent Witness. Harry went through a rough ride. I'm not completely certain the police detective wasn't playing both sides but I liked that.

That's pretty much it for this week's television update. I'll be starting season two of The Witcher this week, which means I'll be putting Glitch on hold until I wrap that up.

Tonight's post is from Ugly Drunk, a novella that puts my heroine in a tricky spot with the hero but she's determined to prevail.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Pippa Rice is a problem solver and when she takes a job at a local watering hole, her natural skill defuses quite a few tricky situations. Too bad she can't quite figure out how to fix her boss, Wood Finnian. The guy has more baggage than an airport, but Pippa isn't one to give up on people, ever.

And a snippety peek…

Wood Finnian made his way to the clerk of court's window. "I'm here to pay my fine." He handed his copy of the judgment entry to the deputy clerk.

She brought the case up on her computer and gave him the figure and he handed over cash in full.

She printed the receipt and handed it through the slot. "I hope we don't see you again, Mr. Finnian. Thank you."

He gave a nod and headed out through the main entrance. Jogging down the steps to the parking lot, his phone rang. He dug it out of his pocket and rolled his eyes.

He accepted the call. "Ward. What's up?" His brother could only be calling for one reason.

Ward got straight to the point. "Hey, bro. I'm sending someone in to help out."

Wood cut him off. "No, you're not. I don't need help." He'd promised the judge he'd start going to group therapy for anger management.

Ward snorted. "Yeah, you do. You've been warned you'll be in danger of losing the liquor license if you get fined again." He waited a beat. "Dad sent an email to let me know, which you should've done considering I own half the bar."

Wood walked to his truck. "Yeah, fine. I should've said something."

Ward agreed. "Damn right. And you will go to the group sessions. It's bad enough when customers get rowdy and have to be thrown out. One of the owners shouldn't be brawling with them. Have you looked at the expense report? We're spending too much on repairs and replacements."

Wood put his brother on speaker and started the engine. "Since I write the reports, it's a safe bet I've seen them. And, yeah, I'll be attending the therapy sessions. Can you get off my ass now?"

Ward sighed. "Fine. I wish I could be there to help. This deployment should be my last then I'm getting out like you did."

Wood grunted. "Probably a wise decision. Try to get out with your head on straight." Unlike me.

Ward huffed out a breath. "I'll keep it in mind." He paused. "About the help I'm sending … you can't refuse. She'll be waiting at the bar when you get back."

Wood smacked the steering wheel. "Dammit, Ward— Wait. Did you say she'll be waiting?"

Ward laughed. "I did. Pippa Rice. She's a former soldier, too, and she's got kick ass skills at keeping the peace."

Wood pulled into the parking lot at the bar and got his first glimpse of a tall, willowy woman. "Dude, she'd blow away in a windstorm. No way am I gonna rely on her to help keep the peace."

Ward's voice went terse. "Trust me. She can hold her own. And you will give this a shot. If you don't, I'll proceedings to dissolve our partnership."

Well, fuck. Wood didn't want to lose the bar or his brother. Not when Ward would be joining civilian life soon.

Wood grumbled. "Fine. I'm not thrilled about this, but I'll see what she can do."

Ward snickered. "Thought you'd be agreeable." A shuffling sound came over the line. "Shit. I gotta go. Don't be a dick when you talk to Pippa and get your ass to therapy." He signed off.

Wood pulled into his spot and got a better look at Pippa Rice. She wore jeans and a tank top coupled with battered combat boots. Her hands were in her back pockets and her face gave away nothing.

Wood cut the engine and pocketed his phone. He'd give Pippa a chance. He didn't have much of a choice because his brother insisted. Probably wouldn't be a hardship either. Pippa Rice happened to be gorgeous even if she did look like a heavy gust of wind would knock her over.

Wood might not think he's met his match, but he so totally has.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Transference

I'm so excited because for the first time in over twenty years—actually, maybe longer—I got some new furniture. It's kind of my holiday present from everyone in the family. A new small recliner and a new couch. I'll be adding a chaise at some point but haven't found one I like yet. The couch story is an entire saga and I didn't expect it until December 23, but it arrived Friday!

I also had a super-busy work schedule, which had me buried for most of the week. I'm definitely not complaining. I love to be busy.

Had a decent week of television but somewhat abbreviated. I started with the Madam Blanc Mysteries. I'm quite enjoying how the larger mystery arc is being woven into the weekly episodes.

I finished up the second part of Silent Witness and started a new episode. Gotta say I'm now into episodes I haven't seen yet. The first part left quite a cliffhanger. I'm a little freaked out.

I caught a full arc of Classic Who and, yes, the Master showed up. I started a new four-part arc and I think this is when we say goodbye to Five. I'll let you know next week.

Watched Mysteries of Apollo and this episode focused on NASA's first heroes, mainly the astronauts from Mercury and Gemini. Quite an interesting episode.

Enjoyed two episodes of The Muppet Show. Senor Wences and Bruce Schwartz and Debbie Harry were the guest stars. Both were fun episodes.

Caught another episode of Fantasy Island. I'm quite happy with this updated version. Looking forward to the holiday episode.

Watched an episode of Peak Practice. An interesting plot with this one. Kind of cool to get a little more backstory for Andrew.

Started a new MasterClass. The instructor is Bill Nye and I can't wait to dive into his classes.

Caught two episodes of Classic Rugrats. Season two is a lot of fun with some memorable stories.

Enjoyed a holiday episode of Chicago Med. Gotta say Dr. Charles is going through it right now. Actually, both of them are. A really great episode nonetheless.

Watched another Brokenwood Mysteries. As usual, this show makes me happy. I love the characters and their interactions. Kind of interesting to meet another one of Mike's exes.

That's pretty much it for this week. Tonight's post is from Transference, a novella that lets my characters explore grief while finding their way to each other.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Leslie Karr is packing her meager belongings to move into a new apartment and finds a letter from Granger Unger explaining why their night of shared grief over the loss of his brother can't go anywhere. After three years, Leslie still wonders if he may have been wrong and decides to test the waters by looking him up before she leaves town.

And a snippety peek…

Granger recognized the changes in Leslie when she entered the coffee shop.

He rose to greet her. "Les? Over here."

She gave him a smile and waved then went to place her order.

She'd let her hair grow out and wore it in a pert ponytail today. She'd also ditched the standard hoodie and battered jeans she'd favored the last time he'd seen her for a pair of bright leggings and willowy cardigan over a fitted T-shirt. Her soft leather ankle boots matched the cardigan in a steely gray color.

His heart rate kicked up a notch when she strolled over to the table, carrying an iced matcha if the green color indicated anything.

He stood and leaned to give her a one-armed hug. "I'm glad you called and happy we could meet."

She grinned and settled across from him. "I can't believe how lame that message was … or that you called me back." Her cheeks colored.

Granger laughed. "Honestly, it surprised me in the best possible way. Work is a grind right now and hearing your voice made my entire day." He took a long sip of his coffee.

She tilted her head. "Tell me everything that's been going on in your life…"

Two hours later, he'd fallen for her all over again. Could that be possible? He glanced in his rearview mirror to make sure she continued to follow him. She had the address programmed into her GPS but he didn't want to lose sight of her.

His hands tightened on the steering wheel. "I can't believe she's really here." How many time had he thought about her over the last few years?

More than he would've admitted to if anyone asked before today.

Turning into his drive, he cut the engine and waited for her to pull in behind him.

He got out and met her at the sidewalk leading to his porch. "Thanks for agreeing to stop in for a while." Unlocking the door, he pushed it open and motioned for her to precede him.

She entered and glanced around. "Lovely home. How long have you been here?"

He chuckled. "Just under a year. I got lucky and bought the place when an older couple wanted to give assisted living a try." He hadn't actually been looking for a house, but a promotion came through and a realtor he played softball with told him about the place.

Eleven months later, he'd finally started getting used to the idea he owned a house.

Leslie moved into the living room. "Thanks for asking me to come. It's nice to see you found a niche and got settled." She glanced over her shoulder. "Gives me hope I'll find my way, too."

He gave a nod. "You're interviewing at three great companies. I'd love to hear more about how that came about." Setting his keys on a side table, he led her into the kitchen. "Why don't I make some sandwiches and you can fill me in."

She sat at the table and he pulled the bread and cold cuts out of the fridge to start making lunch.

My brother's former girlfriend is in my house and I don't want her to leave.

This story keeps surprising me and I'm enjoying that aspect. Leslie and Granger are rediscovering their connection and it's interesting to explore how they navigate things.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Toying with Desire

Hello, December. I'm stuck between being excited for the holiday season and freaking out because I have a lot of things I'd like to get accomplished and not enough time to slide them all in. The story of my life.

Not a bad week of television but a little lighter than usual. I started out with Peak Practice and ended up getting two episodes watched. Both were pretty decent.

Finished up the MasterClass with Brandon McMillan. I had two lessons left and got some great information from both. Not sure what I'll start next but I'm excited.

Caught another episode of Glitch. Some interesting developments and good information. I like the pacing of this series and find I need to focus so I don't miss an important piece of the puzzle.

Enjoyed two more episodes of Classic Rugrats. I finished up season one and started season two. Looking forward to diving back in.

Watched two episodes of Chicago Med. Season three is beginning with a good run. I'm a little on the fence about Dr. Reese. I love her passion but I also get annoyed when she goes off the deep end about something.

Started season six of The Brokenwood Mysteries. Interesting to see another one of Mike's ex wives. I liked having Jared back. Also a good mystery to keep things fun.

Caught an episode of Silent Witness. I don't remember this one so I'm interested to see how the second half ends.

Finished the second part of Classic Who and said goodbye to Tegan. I think the Master is going to make another appearance soon, which I'm kind of meh about.

Enjoyed another episode of Mysteries of Apollo. This one focused on Apollo 8 and had some great information. I love watching old footage of the space program's beginning.

Watched two more episodes of The Muppet Show. James Coburn and Glenda Jackson were the guest stars. The pirate-themed episode ended up being a lot of fun.

Caught another episode of Fantasy Island. Really fun episode even if the theme ended up being a little dark.

Finally caught the finale of Star Trek: Discovery. Really great ending to the first season. I'm excited to start the breakdowns of The Ready Room then move on to season two.

That's pretty much it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Toying with Desire, a novella with the characters learning to let go of preconceived notions and stay in the moment.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Carly Johnson, a savvy business owner who sells sex toys, isn't looking for love … her track record is terrible. But when she meets Zeke Moran, under less than stellar circumstances, sparks fly and Carly wants to take a chance … but first he has to get over his preconceived ideas about her career.

And a snippety peek…

Stunned speechless, Zeke watched Carly walk away. Magnificent. Even regarding her blazing set down directed at him. She certainly shed some light on previously unknown details.

Which shame on him for not taking the time to find out about those pesky tidbits.

He had no idea Lola almost slept with someone else. No clue his sister struggled so much with Rich's absence.

He wondered what else he might be missing.

Maybe he should dig deeper.

Taking off after Carly, he caught up in several long strides. "Wait." He grasped her upper arm, which earned him a cool glare. "Please, wait. I'm sorry."

"Dude. You better take your hands off Carly right now or I will kick your ass." The guy from the bar—buzz cut hair, tall, bulked up, and majorly pissed off—snarled the words.

Zeke had been so intent on apologizing he missed seeing the guy waiting by her car. To keep the peace, he loosened his grip, letting his hand slide down the length of Carly's arm before dropping away.

"I wasn't trying to hurt her. You can cut the guard dog act." Not sure what this guy meant to Carly, Zeke tamped down some irrational jealousy.

The dude advanced toward Zeke and Carly stepped forward. "Todd's not a guard dog, he's my best friend." She moved in between the two men. "Todd, meet Zeke Moran, Lola's brother. Zeke, Todd." Tossing the keys to her "best friend", Lola reached for the passenger door. "Drive me, home? I'm completely wiped."

She did look tired. Zeke wondered how much of his asshat act contributed to that. "Let me buy you coffee. Please." When Lola paused before sliding into the car, he let out the breath he'd been holding. "I really am sorry for jumping on you. I guess I didn't realize how bad things were for Lola."

Carly smiled, albeit with sadness. "You might try talking to her about it. She's very, very lonely without Rich."

Zeke promised. "I'll do that." But he pressed his invitation. "About that coffee?"

Carly flicked her gaze to Todd and the other man rolled his eyes and opened the driver's side door when she stood to get out. "My phone is on…" He left off the implied use it if you need to.

He slid inside the car, fired up the engine, and took off as soon as Carly closed the passenger door.

She still looked wary when she moved to stand beside Zeke. "I know a great place for coffee if you don't mind me choosing."

Zeke took her elbow. "As long as it's not Ground Central, I'm fine with whatever you want." He led her the few yards to his car.

Carly chuckled. "Can I make a confession? I hate their coffee." Climbing into his vehicle, she whispered. "Way too frou-frou for me." Then she closed her door.

Rounding the back of the car, Zeke thought he might just be in love.

I love how this story is coming together. Zeke starts out being the one needing to get over his initial impressions but Carly sneaks in later with some heavy baggage she needs to check also. So much fun!

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Throw in the Towel

Hope everyone had a terrific US holiday and a terrific week if not in the US. I got to spend time with my oldest and youngest kiddos and enjoyed being able to do so. I think I have two more gifts and maybe some odds and ends to pick up and I'm done with holiday shopping. Fairly pleased to be a little ahead of my usual last-minute rush.

Had a good week of television viewing. I watched another episode of The Brokenwood Mysteries. This show continues to make me so happy.

Got a two-part Silent Witness watched. This is one I didn't remember and I'm glad I got to watch it.

Got a full arc of Classic Who in and started a new one. I've discovered a couple of episodes were almost an hour in this season, which is actually kind of cool.

Started a new series with Mysteries of Apollo and the first episode focused on the Apollo 13 mission and some of the in-depth history of that experience.

Began season five of The Muppet Show and watched four episodes. Gene Kelly, Loretta Swit, Joan Baez, and Shirley Bassey were the guest hosts. Final season of the original.

Caught two episodes of Fantasy Island and I'm still thoroughly enjoying the show. I think I have one left in this first season and I'll look forward to the holiday episode.

Started season six of Peak Practice. Great episode that moved the timeline ahead a little. Being at the halfway mark of the entire run is a nice accomplishment.

Enjoyed another lesson of MasterClass with Brandon McMillan. Some great tips on housebreaking that I hope to put into effect after I get my downstairs area organized.

Season two of Glitch started out with an interesting twist. This show is very twisty and turny and I like that. Looking forward to getting more information on how everything works and finding out if Sarah is another one of the risen. If so, poor James. Two women in his life? That's a lot.

Remember when I thought I finished the first season of Star Trek: Discovery? Yeah, not the case. I had two more episodes. Watched the penultimate this week and, wow, what a mix of highs and lows. This show. Just saying.

Started season three of Chicago Med. I like how they moved the timeline ahead and seeing where everyone ended up. Conor breaks my heart. April breaks my heart. Wil and Nat make me happy. The horrible new surgical resident irritates the life out of me. So far, so good. LOL

Watched another episode of The Madame Blanc Mysteries. I really love the dynamic of this show and the mystery this week ended up being terrific. Also love the overarching mystery of who killed Jean's husband. Interesting show.

That's pretty much it for this week. Tonight's post is from Throw in the Towel, a novella about competing mud run fanatics and how they end up finding their way to each other.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Taurin Beach and Craig Wallmartin are top competitors on the mud run circuit. When Craig is caught by a reporter with nothing but a towel, it gives Taurin the perfect idea for catching his attention and finally getting what she wants. Him.

And a snippety peek…

Taurin planned a truly bold move this time. She had her towel at the ready, clutched against her sternum. Craig entered the showers and caught sight of her, pausing a moment before grabbing his shower gear.

She looked around, making a show of searching for something.

Craig arched his brows. "Lose a flip-flop again?"

She snorted and paused her search. "Not this time." She messed with her towel, coming very close to showing her breasts.

He swallowed hard and quickly ducked into the men's side of the stalls.

She kept up a cursory search through the portable lockers.

Craig finished up and came out. "About earlier … for the record, I'm not that fond of all the attention."

Taurin shook her head. "You should be. You could have your pick of a different flavor every weekend."

Craig grimaced. "Yeah, not into the casual one-night thing. Not anymore."

Taurin cocked her head. "One woman kind of guy?"

He nodded. "Yeah, my juggling females days are over."

She brightened on the inside. Time to put her plan in motion.

She went back to rifling through the locker. "Dammit."

His brow furrowed. "What are you looking for?"

She glanced over her shoulder. "My fresh set of clothes. They're not with my gear."

Craig pulled his locker open. "I could loan you a shirt. Hold on."

Nice, but totally not what she wanted. "No, it's okay. I'm just around the corner." She dashed out, heading for her trailer.

"Wait!" Craig called out behind her.

She didn't, making a quick run to the camper, hoping he'd follow. She had her hand on the latch when he called her name.

"Taurin!"

She turned, noting he'd only thrown on a pair of shorts and looked incredible.

He jogged to her. "You left your stuff."

She nodded. "Yeah. Figured I'd get it after I got dressed." She looked down at the towel. "Didn't think I could manage to carry it and not lose my cover."

Craig's gaze dipped but he quickly looked back up. "Definitely not. You're in danger of losing it even now."

She smirked. If all went to plan, she'd definitely be uncovered soon.

This is so much fun to write. Taurin goes after what she wants and Craig tops her list!

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Tell Me More

Okay, we're a week before Thanksgiving in the US and I'm happy to say I've got the bulk of my holiday shopping done. I need to get a few more items then it's time to put a bow on the whole package and be done. YAY!

Had a pretty solid week of working and watching television. A new project crossed my desk and it's going well. On the television side, I started with Classic Who and watched a four-episode arc then hit a two-episode arc. Both were enjoyable.

Caught the last two episodes of Roswell: The Final Verdict. Really enjoyed this six-part series. Not sure what I'll pick up with next, but probably something else UFO related.

I watched four episodes of The Muppet Show and finished out season four. The guest hosts were Doug Henning, Andy Williams, Alan Arkin, and Diana Ross. Season five is the final run of the original show and I'm not sure what I'll watch next. Maybe some of the movies.

Enjoyed two more episodes of Fantasy Island. So far, I'm liking the new premise and how things from the past are blended into the current incarnation of the island. Based on what I've read, there's going to be a holiday episode. I'm a total sucker for stuff like that and can't wait.

Finished out season five of Peak Practice. Did not expect it to end with a house burning down, but it happened. Looking forward to starting season six. I'm at the halfway point. Yay!

Watched two more lessons of MasterClass with Brandon McMillan. He's got some great methods and I'm hoping to try some out on my furry mutts soon. I've already incorporated a couple of things and they've worked well.

Completed the first season of Glitch. I didn't see a couple of things coming and I love the twists. Looking forward to starting the second season this week. I gotta say I really feel for James and this show is like catnip because of the love triangle that isn't really a triangle and the fact that no one is a bad guy in it. That's a trope I thoroughly enjoy.

Started a new episode of Blue Heelers and have a feeling it's going to be one of those odd ones where the heelers are on opposing sides. Not sure how I'll like this one.

Finished the finale of Star Trek: Discovery. Man, what a ride the first season ended up being. I can't wait to see what the breakdowns will look like on The Ready Room.

Caught two more episodes of Chicago Med. I'm almost finished with the second season and looking forward to the third. Gotta take a moment to appreciate the episode titles. This show makes them fun.

Started a new show with The Madam Blanc Mysteries. So far, I'm hooked. I loved the first episode. Looking forward to seeing more.

Finished the second episode of Silent Witness. I have vague memories of this one and how it played out. Kind of a twisty tale.

Last but not least, I watched two more Classic Rugrats episodes. I'm trying to decide if I want to watch the holiday specials or hold off and watch as they pop up during the seasons. Stay tuned.

That's pretty much it for weekly updates. Tonight's post is from Tell Me More, a novella where the characters start out on opposite sides but end up meeting in the middle.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Shannon Tewes and Webber Dillon work for a premiere event planner and don't always see eye to eye. Shannon has a knack for putting Webber on the hot seat whenever their boss is around and Webber has several ideas of how he'd retaliate if he ever got Shannon in a compromising position.

And a snippety peek…

Shannon slid into her car, sticky from the late October Indian summer. "Well, shit." She'd really pissed Webber off.

As in totally, completely, massively. She kind of couldn't blame him. He'd somewhat called the deal about her last minute inspirations and always sliding them in unexpectedly. Her creative process sometimes gelled right before a big meeting, ideas pinging fast and furiously—yes, sometimes in her dreams.

She started the engine and set the air conditioner to max. "Usually Webber just blows up, yells, and gets over it." Not exactly what he did this time.

She liked Webber a lot. They often engaged in flirty banter, which she enjoyed because he fueled many of her fantasies. The man had talent and worked well with almost everyone. She didn't know anyone who had a bad thing to say about him. She definitely didn't … except when he got cranky about things—like her incredible ideas.

Then again, she'd never laid out a full-on tunnel the size of half a football field before. Looking at it from his perspective, she didn't blame him for being angry. Or thinking she threw stuff out at the last minute to drive him mad.

Actually, if he pulled something like that with her, she'd consider the gesture disrespectful.

She shook her head. "Jesus, Shannon. You really fucked up this time." Putting the vehicle in reverse, she backed out and waited for oncoming traffic to clear.

She tried to imagine how much work it would be to put the tunnel pieces together.

She winced. "Kind of hurts my brain." The least she could do would be to order him dinner and drop it off. "Not like it's out of my way. I have to pick up something to eat anyway."

Maybe he'd be less irritated if she tried to take off some of the burden? But first, head home, grab a shower, and get into some comfortable clothes.

I'm trying something a little different with this story and flipping a trope on its head. Shannon will end up helping Webber out of a sticky situation.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Surf's Up

Well, we're finally getting November weather. It's chilly outside and we got some snow showers that really ended up being flurries flying wildly in the wind. I'm kind of excited to get into the true depth of fall.

Had a decent week of catching up on projects and doing more organizing. I also made a dent in my holiday shopping. I'm making an effort to be on top of that this year.

Pretty solid week of viewing also. I got two episodes of Glitch in. I thought I'd already watched the third episode but I hadn't. So I'll be starting episode five this week. Some crazy stuff happened and we're down two characters. I'm very interested in what the hell happened to Vic.

Caught another musical icon episode. Whitney Houston: We Will Always Love You ended up being full of stuff I didn't know or remember about the singer. I like revisiting the lives of those we've lost.

Watched the penultimate episode of Star Trek: Discovery. Definitely had a twist I sort of expected but didn't know if the show would go there. They totally did. I'm kind of excited to see the finale then dive into the Ready Room breakdowns. I kind of hope Wil loses his mind over some of the twists and turns. He's so much fun because he's such a huge fan.

Enjoyed two episode of Chicago Med. I'm almost through the second season with one more episode to go. I'm kind of sad about Robin's descent, especially because Rhodes is such a nice guy. I'm also thrilled with how Reese is coming into her own and standing up for herself. Her confidence is amazing this season.

Caught the season finale of Midsomer Murders. Really liked this one and loved the mystery. I rather hope there's another season in the works.

Finished season thirteen of Silent Witness and started the first episode of season fourteen. I'm a little iffy on whether I remember this one or not. Some of the details are pinging so I think I did watch it before.

Watched the season twenty finale of Classic Who. Thoroughly enjoyed "The Five Doctors" and seeing all the former companions back for a spin. Although Four didn't have much of anything to do, which, honestly, isn't a huge loss. He'd been the most recent anyway.

Caught another episode of Roswell: The Final Verdict and liked the deep dive into how some of the witnesses were discredited and humiliated. Everything that happened with the Roswell incident is fascinating.

Enjoyed two more episodes of The Muppet Show. Lynda Carter and Carol Channing were the guest stars. The muppets trying to be super heroes was hilarious.

Started the updated version of Fantasy Island. Interesting premise and pretty decent storylines. I'll finish out the season and see if things hold up.

Caught another episode of Peak Practice. I'm almost through season five and I'm still liking the mix of partners. I think I have two episodes left before season six starts.

Watched another MasterClass with Brandon McMillan. This one gave me some good insight into how to keep my doggos from jumping. I'm going to try some of the techniques because that's a huge problem with both dogs.

Enjoyed two episodes of Classic Rugrats. Two were favorites from watching with my kiddos when they were little. This show is so much fun to revisit.

Also caught another episode of The Brokenwood Mysteries. Nice to see Jared back and what a terrific case. I'm hoping the lawyer lady gets caught at some point. Because she's definitely guilty. Also wondering if the final duo will end up featuring in another episode at some point.

And that's pretty much it for this week's television update. Tonight's post is from Surf's Up, a fun novella that puts the characters into a dangerous situation but gives them a new perspective on each other.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Marla Siff and Farley Osbourne protect a wealthy businessman as part of his entourage. People assume tech geek Farley is the muscle, but Marla is the combat trained protective detail. When a threat looms, they retreat to the private shores of their client's own island and Marla and Farley fight their attraction to keep their boss safe.

And a snippety peek…

Marla crossed her arms over her chest. "Seriously?" With Lane, sometimes one never knew.

Lane nodded. "Yes. You two need a break. The island is secure for the most part, but I know you'll both want to stay close." He arched a brow, wondering if she'd contradict him. "Why not learn a new skill?"

Marla shot a glance toward Farley. He'd be her deciding factor. She didn't have a specific desire to ride waves, but she wouldn't make a fuss if Farley got on board.

He shrugged. "Always wanted to surf. Could be fun." His lips kicked into a grin.

Her shoulders squared. "Fine. I guess it could come in handy to know how to hang ten." Right, as if she'd ever have to chase an opponent on a surfboard.

Lane clapped his hands. "Awesome." He sat up. "By the way, I took the liberty of having dinner sent to the duplex. The suits can handle keeping watch after you secure the house." He got up. "I'm going for a swim in the lap pool then having my own dinner. I won't be leaving the house."

Nice of Lane to keep them informed. Maybe the latest attempt knocked some fear into him.

Farley's fingers flew over his tablet the cameras whirred into position and the perimeter alarms being set clicked audibly on the device. He never failed to stay on top of the gadgets that protected their employer. The suits really didn't have much to do except patrol the interior of the huge manor house.

But … it never failed to be on the safe side.

She shot a chance toward Lane. "Appreciate the update, but it goes without saying, call if you decide you need fresh air or anything equally stupid." She planted a hand on her hip. "I don't care if it's the middle of the night." She added one more reminder. "I'm serious, Lane."

Farley headed toward the rear exit and she started to follow.

Lane responded. "I won't forget, Marla. You two have a nice dinner and relax. I'm not taking any chances."

From your lips to whatever rules the universe's ears.

Marla met Farley at the door. "Please make sure you ping my phone so I can check the monitors throughout the night."

Farley ducked outside. "I'll do one better." He crossed the short distance to the guest duplex they shared when in residence.

He pushed his door open and Marla stepped in behind him. His side of the duplex mirrored hers but had lots of earthy tones and modern vibes, while hers had bold colors and rustic industrial touches. She kind of liked his blend of natural shades mixed with the sleek tech towers, monitors, and clean lines of the furniture.

He unzipped his gear bag and pulled out a tablet. "This is for you. Better access and a bigger screen." He brought up the security app.

She took the device. "Wow. Thanks." Nodding toward the table in the dining area, she chuckled. "Lane went overboard again. There's enough food over there to feed a family." No doubt her table held a matching spread.

Farley's lips twitched. "I know. I'll end up having leftovers for breakfast."

She probably would, too.

Breakfast reminded her of their newly planned excursion.

She frowned and met Farley's gaze. "Did you find anything hinky at all with Janneson?" He'd had time to do a more thorough dive.

Farley shook his head. "I went deep and he's clean."

She let out a relieved sigh. "Good. It'll be nice to have something resembling a vacation." Waving the tablet, she stared toward the door. "Thanks again for the gadget. Enjoy your dinner."

Farley lifted a hand. "You, too. I'll let you know when Lane gets started in the morning."

Meaning he'd take morning detail around five a.m. and give her time to sleep in a little.

Nice.

This story is so much fun. Marla and Farley ride the whirlwind that Lane leaves in his wake but they enjoy it.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Summer's Eve

Well … November has arrived and the weather is cooling off to true fall-like temperatures. It's pretty chilly when I take the dogs out for the final time at night. Brrr.

Had a limited work week with only one project on my desk. Sometimes it's nice to have the extra time to get things done around the house. I'm still on my great clear-out and making solid progress. I have a new couch coming later this month and I'm excited to get everything ready for it.

Decent week of television. I caught four episodes of The Muppet Show. Anne Murray, Jonathan Winters, Star Wars / Mark Hamill, and Christopher Reeve were the guest stars. I remember the Star Wars episode from childhood. My brothers and I loved that one.

Finished up Prime Suspect and actually loved the way the series ended. I don't remember if I actually got to finish the entire series when I watched the first time so I'm glad I got to complete the entire run. Really like the bookend of how it began with how it ended.

Watched two episodes of Peak Practice. As suspected, David's wife kind of went off the rails and the climax of that happened in the second episode. I'm also enjoying Paul's storyline. Nice to see him pop up about every other episode.

Caught two more MasterClass lessons with Brandon McMillan. He's very good at explaining his technique and I'm hoping I'll be able to work with both dogs to have them behave better.

Watched another episode of Glitch and this show is as trippy as I thought it would be. Three episodes in and I'm still not quite sure what's going on. James has quite the dilemma on two fronts and it's almost uncomfortable watching him juggle everything.

Enjoyed another Pop Profiles. This one featured Jennifer Lopez. I didn't learn a lot of new things about her career but I loved revisiting some of her stellar moments.

Caught two more episodes of Classic Rugrats. This show is so much fun to revisit. Had a chance to talk to my oldest and reminisce a little about how much we loved watching when he was little.

Watched a great episode of Chicago Med. I'm starting to really enjoy Dr. Latham. I also loved getting into a little more of Goodwin's story. Also really liked Reece's storyline for this episode.

Enjoyed another episode of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I've been enjoying having Frodo pop up in weird jobs. My hope is he'll eventually end up at the Toad and Lion. He'd make a great bartender.

Started a new episode of Blue Heelers. This one is interesting with a rural flavor to it. I'm feeling bad for Adam. He's got it bad for Chris and she's not going there because of their age difference.

Started the final two-parter of Silent Witness for season thirteen. This is another South Africa setting. I have a very vague memory of what happened the first time I watched and I'm looking forward to the second part to see if I remember anything else.

I'm almost finished with season twenty of Classic Who. The Master did show up again in a two-part arc and that leaves one final episode left. "The Five Doctors" will round out the season and we'll be on to twenty-one.

Enjoyed another episode of Roswell: The Final Verdict. This focused on how the government went to a lot of trouble to silence witnesses of the crash. The AI found a couple of false statements and that always interests me. Looking forward to the next episode.

That's pretty much it for this week's update. Tonight's post is from Summer's Eve, an Organic Nature short for June.

Here's the mini-blurb:

The beginning of summer means Vin Derbish is chest-deep into his busy season. Eppie Collins is used to not seeing much of Vin during the month of June, but suggests a spontaneous camping trip when the weather turns nasty with thunderstorms. A few days in a cabin with pouring rain as their soundtrack can't be a bad thing.

And a snippety peek…

Vin took a sip of beer and set the mug on the table to fish his phone out of his pocket. "Derbish."

Eppie chuckled. "Forgot to check the ID, didn't you?"

His lips kicked into a grin. "Yep. It's dark in here." He waited a beat. "What's the plan?" He really hoped she'd be able to meet him.

Eppie pitched her voice low. "The plan is for you to cut out as soon as you can and make your way to the cabin."

Vin fist-pumped the air. "You'll meet me?" He took another long draw of his beer.

Eppie made a purring sound. "No, you'll meet me. I'm already here." She paused a moment. "Sans clothes."

Vin set the mug down and stood up. "Seriously? I'm on my way." He hung up to the sound of her laughter.

Signaling to one of his foremen, Vin nodded toward the door. Mark gave Vin a thumbs-up and Vin exited Mo's to hear a low rumble of thunder. The wind picked up a little and the tree limbs swayed, the leaves turning inside out.

Vin made a dash to his truck and looked out the windshield. "Rain's headed this way." The clouds started rolling in and the sky darkened a little more.

He started the engine and put the vehicle in gear. Twenty minutes to the cabin … he'd be racing the weather. Turning out onto the highway, big, fat raindrops started an intermittent plop, plop, plop on the hood of his truck. Excitement thrummed under his skin when the sky lightened up from lightning off in the distance.

He couldn't wait to get to Eppie. He missed her when the long hours kept him away. Her love of a good storm followed by a day or two of drenching rain meant he'd have an enjoyable break after working nonstop for two weeks.

Her words echoed in his mind. Sans clothes. Maybe she'd greet him at the door … or be waiting in the bed. Didn't matter to him. He planned to get naked within the first thirty seconds of arrival.

"Get ready, Ep. We've got some lost time to make up for."

Eppie and Vin are so much fun and I love writing little moments in the progression of their relationship.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!

Sunday Snippet: Stone Cold Sober

Happy Halloween to those who observe. We had our trick or treat last night and it was nice to be outside with semi-decent weather to enjoy fall. For me, it was wonderful to take a break from some renovation in the bathroom. I'm not twenty-five anymore and I'm definitely feeling that right now. LOL

Not a bad week for television, I started with another episode of The Brokenwood Mysteries and quite enjoyed it. I love the quirkiness of the characters and the cases. Such a great show.

Watched a two-part Silent Witness and I vaguely remembered this one. It's odd how a season from a decade or so ago holds up so well. What goes around comes around.

Caught two arcs of Classic Who, which brings me close to the end of season twenty. Pretty sure the Master is going to show up again around the final arc.

Enjoyed two episodes of The Muppet Show. Liza Minnelli and Phyllis George were the guest stars.

Finished up season six of Prime Suspect. I'll be starting the final season this week. I'm not sure what I'll move on to after this series but I'll find something.

Watched two episodes of Roswell: The Final Verdict. I kind of like the use of AI truth detection they're using to determine whether witness accounts about the crash are true or not. Interesting viewing.

Caught another episode of Peak Practice. I'm coming up on the last few episodes of season five and I'm still enjoying the series. Slowly but surely making my way to season twelve with one of my favorite actors in an early role.

Got some great information from MasterClass with Brandon McMillan. I'll be coming back to this lesson in the near future.

Started the new-to-me series Glitch and got rather hooked on the first episode. My sibling highly recommended this one and I look forward to discussing it with him.

Watched Pop Profile: Demi Lovato and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm not overly familiar with her career and the profile was interesting to follow along.

Caught another episode of Star Trek: Discovery. Things are definitely heating up and I can't decide if I'm really down with what's going on with Ash or if I need to shake my head over it. Either way, I'm so invested in what happens I can't wait for the next episode.

Great Chicago Med episode with Halsted, Rhodes, and Reese learning some lessons. I always find the episode names interesting and I love how they almost always end up fitting the theme.

Watched another Midsomer Murders episode and thoroughly enjoyed it. After twenty-two seasons that's saying something. I have one more episode of this season then, hopefully, a new season in the near future.

That's pretty much it for this week's viewing update. Tonight's post is from Stone-Cold Sober, a novella where the heroine meets her hero at a terrible time.

Here's the mini-blurb:

When Tansy Jons meets West Tamesin, they have an instant connection, but she's dating one of his oldest friends. A drunken evening and almost hook-up with West has Tansy examining what she feels as soon as she's stone-cold sober.

And a snippety peek…

West stood at the bar, chatting with the bartender Reuben Chidwell, a former classmate from high school. "I'll have another." He nodded toward the glass.

Reuben smirked. "Sure you only want soda water?"

West bobbed his head. "Yeah. Had way too much last night."

The door opened and West glanced up and locked gazes with David. A kick of guilt hit his stomach but West kept his didn't look away. David charged forward and West braced for confrontation, ready to take whatever David dished out.

He didn't have to wait long. David drew his arm back and smashed his fist into West's face. His head snapped back and pain bloomed along his jawline and inside his mouth where the tender inner skin of his cheek met with hard, unyielding teeth.

Reuben leaned across the bar. "Damn, Matthews. You can walk your ass right back out of here, if you're gonna start shit."

West waved off the bartender. "It's all right, Reuben. He's done." He arched a brow and rubbed his jaw. "What the hell, man?" As if he didn't know.

David gave West a level stare. "Don't even. You know exactly what the hell." He leaned in close. "But if you need clarification, let's say I know how to keep my dick in my pants." His voice dropped lower. "Something you seem to struggle with."

West took a drink to ease the burn along the inside of his cheek. "Okay. For the record, my dick never left my pants." Not that it didn't want to…

David visibly relaxed, his ruffled feathers soothed. "Good to hear. Still a dick move."

West grunted. "It was and I'm sorry. Won't happen again." He shook his head. "We've been friends too long for me to wreck what you and Tansy have."

David snorted. "Had. Tansy and I are over." He turned and leaned against the bar. "You've piqued her interest enough that she ended things with me." His shoulders slumped and he sighed. Stunned, West signaled to Reuben to pour David a beer.

If West had to be honest, he'd admit to being intrigued by Tansy's move.

He set that thought aside and nodded toward the mug on the counter. "Look, again, I'm sorry. Beer's on me."

David grabbed the brew and took a long, slow drink.

West's phone pinged and he fished it out of his pocket.

A text from Tansy. "I found a place." She included the address and asked when he could meet.

West showed David the message. "In the interest of full disclosure, I'm don't want to hide anything from you."

David lifted his chin. "Appreciate the gesture, man, but not necessary."

West huffed out a breath. "You know that's not how it works. You're my best friend. Even if you two aren't together anymore, I'm not moving in on her."

David laughed. "Dude, you might not have a choice. Just saying." He finished his beer and set the mug on the bar. "By the way, rumor has it a position is open at the sheriff's office. You might want to check it out." He pushed away from the counter.

West arched a brow. "Thanks for the heads-up." He caught David's arm. "You and me? We okay?" He wouldn't stick around if they weren't.

David shrugged. "We will be. And I'm serious when I say don't close yourself off." He met West's gaze. "I don't know if Tansy and I would've worked out long-term. Gretchen still takes up space in my head sometimes and I think Tansy got that clue before I did." He lifted his chin and headed for the door.

West stared after him not quite sure what to do with the admission or the advice.

I love how this story is coming together. Meeting the right person at the wrong time is a favorite trope of mine.

That's it for this week. Happy reading!
